Here is one more special feat. KK Partizan's 1992 European Championship campaign, at the Final Four of the Euroleague in Istanbul, is hailed by many Basketball jurnalists as one of the most inspiring basketball moments of all time. KK Partizan reached the top of the most prestigious European Basketball competition despite playing all but one of the games (crucial quarter-final game vs. Knorr) on foreign ground (in Madrid suburb Fuenlabrada); It was FIBA's decision due to regional civil war. The gymanisum in the "adopted-home" was regularly packed with locals even during practise sessions. The same year club took national championship and cup, and won Triple Crown.
Pure determination, love from Grobari (and the entire country) and their love for Black-n-White is what made this difficult campaign manageable (from the numerous players' interviews over the years). It isn't the trophy that will live for eternity but the courage and needed to take such a tumultuous path. It was the despair and grief of living through their country's disintegration and inability to have any support that makes this impressive. They were ambassadors of hope for the entire region; they were young inexperienced 19-21 years olds (with Serbs, a Croat and Bosnian + a rookie couch Obradovic - former Partizan player and his 1st of many Euro titles). Those that were involved and those that lived to watch this campaign were blessed to witness the power of sports that transcendent all cultural norms and boundaries. KK Partizan in 1992 didn't just provide hope and a sense of sanity in a war-torn region that was full of uncertainty. It also showcased its passion and love for the game to the people of Fuenlabrada (Vamos, Vamos Partizan) and most of the Spain (as the Spaniards were quick to adopt and embrace KK Partizan). Town of Fuenlabrada, suburb of Madrid now has its own professional basketball club, that plays out of the same gymnasium, with honorary KK Partizan banners and colors still hanging as a source of inspiration.
